I am 34 and hv finally saved $100k. Minus emrgncy funds & amt I need in nxt 5 yrs, I hv abt $30k left for a longer investment term (>10 yrs). What do u recommend? Feelg overwhelmed by the many options?

Am not sure how I should diversify this $30k. Wanted to get into the S&P 500, maybe an RSP with OCBC or a roboadvisor and maybe forex, gold.. as u can see, I’m kinda all over the place.. need some advice..

There are actually many way for you to do with your 30k. Most importantly is what are you comfortable with? For example how much risk you are willing to take, how long you willing to wait out?

You can add me in tele @jaythai and we can have some discussion over it.

Congrats for hitting $100k!

depending on your risk appetite, you can consider various options.

$10k in blue chips like DBS which is generally safer with dividend income.

$10k in REITS which also provides dividend income but a diversification from banks. If you are unsure what REITS to pick, you can consider purchas through SYFE's REITS+ which is an ETF that gives u access to 30 SG REITS to make it safer.

  1. $10k in US ETF. A good start would be S&P500 and Nasdaq100. I decided to invest in both through again SYFE's equity100. Reason why is because I wanted to do a dollar cost average but realized brokers chargea commission and it will bring down my average yield. So I decided to pay for 0.8% yearly through a ROBO advisor instead and they will manage my portfolio for me. If you need a referral code, let me know so we both get $10 for every $500 invested! :)

You can use a roboadvisor solution such as Endowus. What they offer is goal based investing and the solution automatically rebalances your portfolio for you (e.g. globally diversified regionally and across asset classes).

You can use some of your funds for good old stock picking and alternative investments

1st congratulations on getting the $100,000 done up, a proper milestone there 🎉 🎉 🎉

But do invest wisely during this COVID-19 period and the investment waters are very muddy and choppy out there.

10 years investment horizon can split up into 3 pots.

  1. $10k Investment plan with 10 years horizon timeline

  2. $10k in Insurance Savings account for eg. Singlife, mainly for liquidity purposes

  3. $10k in Dividend stocks if you are open to further options.

Just my $0.05 here on a Monday morning. 🙂
