How to ask for base pay raise? After checking reports, I felt I’m underpaid in my industry How do I bring up pay raise on top of the really little AI given?

Please don't give advice that's performance related because there's performance bonus given and boss/HR will use this as defense.

  • It really depends how your reporting officer / higher ups think of your performance (not your actual performance) though you don't want this to be mentioned. E.g. if you are really a star performer in their eyes and the eyes of your same ranked colleagues (no one else is better than u are and the firm/bosses needs you badly) - the request for a pay raise is as simple as a talk.
  • However, let's say you are just above average / average, there will be not much reason for your bosses to entertain your research. Because they can easily replace you factually. You can try to hint and back up with your achievements but it may cause unhappiness. Comparison is the thief of joy. The reports always will show we can somewhat achieve more (salary/benefits) - because then the job agencies can get ppl to change jobs (earn commission), govt can get ppl to upgrade (reskill so they will not approach govt when jobless/AI place them out of job) - I often feel the salary reports are to achieve some other objectives (the objectives of sponsors) than helping individuals really use the report as a guide (as promised). Use them carefully w a pinch of salt.

Can start a review discussion with proper backing of facts on industry pay ranges, at least it might be worth a shot and more convincing content to HR.

Can gently include the topic of #Shrinkflation as a discussion topic as well, or incoming life milestones (ie wedding, house etc) as a motivational source for this discussion to take place (with HR and other people involved)

Hard to ask in my own view. Better to change job....
