How much do we need to earn before having children?
My partner and I have been working for about 3 years and are planning for a 4 RM HDB plus two children. But our total pay only adds up to $7k per month. We are quite worried because of the cost of a flat and having kids are not cheap, and we aren't getting any younger... Both in the late 20s. We know it defers for every couple, but just wanted to get a rough estimate? Thank you...

There is no benchmark for that in my opinion, more of whether you guys are ready to have kids and all the intangibles of raising a child. Working around with budgeting based on your current income is the best.

I was once like you. Wondering how much it takes to have a child. Will I be sufficient. But then I realise its not so much about the money. Its more about alignment with your partner and how time don't wait for us. I put it down on a post-it. By this age, we want to get married. By this age a house, by this age, first kid. etc. And then we realise we got no time to lose as there will be a snowball effect. So don't worry take action! Plus its not like you want then it comes! YKWIM!
