How much do ordinary car salesman earn and what’s their busness model?

I believe that their salary is commission based. So they are paid a basic salary and on top of that, they'll get paid commission for the number of cars that they managed to sell. This also means that their salary every month is variable/not fixed as it depends on their sales performance.
