How do you decide if using grabpay is better or credit cards?

With so many payment options, I've got decision fatigue, even confusion at the cashiers. Is it better to use one? If not how do we decide which spending to use for different things?

Grab’s highest is $10 vouchers for 5000points. So if you’re Platinum, and you spend $1250 and get 5000 points, you will get “cash back” of 0.8%.

In comparison, Credit Cards (CC) tend to have higher cashback. This depends on what card you have. I have a student CC which gives me 1% cashback on all purchases. So if you compare this with the cash back of GrabPay Card, the CC one is better.

But wait, sometimes CCs have a credit limit, and your utilisation rate shouldn’t be too high per billing (i usually stick to 20%). Grab on the other hand don’t have. So if you really want to maximise the returns, use the CC until hit desired utilisation rate, then use grabpay card.

But wait again, sometimes grab got those promo where if you’re first few people to spend like $1000 you can get an extra 5000 points or something (it’s called GrabBonanza). So if like this, is better if you use grabpay card.

So which one should you use? It depends!! For me this is how I do it:

1) check if grab got the promo. If have, use grabpay card.
2) if no promo, use the credit card until the desired utilisation rate.
3) use the grabpay card.

Hope this is simple enough!! â˜ș

Depends on your spending habits, and what offers the cards provide. Some cards have minimum spending per month in order to give you a benefit. So if you don’t hit it, it will only give you a flat rate low benefit. Some cards give you miles, and for GrabPay, it gives you points. The points can then be used to offset grab-related transactions or exchanged for different items in their boutique store. So, it really depends on which would interest you! I used to be more inclined to collect miles but covid kinda ruined that plan. Lol.
