I have enough emergency funds to tide through retrenchment. Should I stay put or prepare for industry change?

I think that networking is important. Not only the networking part but also you will meet different people from different industries. There are tons of those on sites like meetup.com in the form of hobby groups, general discussion groups etc.

Sunset industry? IMO, if everyone is moving away from the industry, then you basically have less competition. Your domain knowledge + new skills in data analytics will put you way ahead of the curve. Instead of waiting to be replaced, replace the work through automation where no one sees value anymore. Help others do more value-added work in the process also, I think there’ll bound to be some personal fulfilment. You might even find more opportunities in the current environment you’re in than venture out into a new space where you’ll be competing with people who are younger and smarter than you, but not necessarily wiser.
