I started online in 2014 because I was looking for a new pet passion project to do after work, and I've always wanted to be a published author, so I decided to "self-publish" via a blog. My husband (then boyfriend) encouraged me to write about finance cos he felt I was quite savvy in that area and had been advising my friends on how to cut expenses and save more money for the longest time.
I had ZERO traffic generation strategy - I started writing for myself and only shared on my personal Facebook to my friends. Back then I was quite shy about it too so if they shared my post, sometimes I would ask that they remove the tag identifying it as me (and just use Budget Babe). Who knew it exploded almost literally overnight and suddenly all my friends were sharing it, or telling me that their colleagues were talking about it in office! I was stunned! I still remember that moment when my friend Leonard showed me how many shares my blog post had gotten in just a matter of days : 200+ shares!!!
It was crazy. I never planned for it. I never expected it. I never wrote with the intention of becoming viral nor an influencer. But as an author, the biggest reward and fulfillment comes from when more people read your writings, and like it.
And that's how my story began...and still continues :)
