How are SSB interest rates decided?

2.01% for the August issue is very low, is this an indication of short-term economic outlook?

The technical answer can be found here: http://www.sgs.gov.sg/savingsbonds/Determine-ra...

If you feel the current issue interest rate is too low, you can wait for another issue, as there are issues every month. You can even liquidate to re-invest if a much better issue comes along.

Definitely the short term economic outlook is a little uncertain. However, if we bear in mind that SSB are relatively mid-long term investments, that will help us to understand if it is suitable for us.
