Hi, newbie here, I've been seeing this term 'avoiding unwanted capital gains' but I don't quite understand it. Why would anyone want to avoid capital gains?

I think it is more applicable to US citizen. Capital gain from stock if they cash out US govt gonna tax them heavily. If they held the stock for long term the tax will be lesser. Not applicable to US non-citizen.
