Ignoring the savings you'll get if you change the forms of public transport, your lifestyle currently will still be cheaper than owning a car. There are many other elements you've got to consider : Road tax, insurance, parking x 2, ERP, servicing, fuel, repairs, etc.

Even with a second hand car, it is still upwards of $1k a month. The trade off is that you have a car to use at whenever you want to. Spending will tend to go higher as you consider going places further out with a car too.
We were in a similar situation, tried BlueSG for a while but couldn't live with the daily uncertainty. Eventually bought a second hand car, unwillingly.
