I am abit confused, the returns are not compounded when it is in the portfolio right? correct me if i am wrong.
The better way is to withdraw the returns and deposit the returns into the portfolio, so you the returns will be reinvested? After withdraw the returns, the returns only consider your cash right?

There are 2 parts to the returns: capital gain is always compounded, and dividend is compounded if you choose to reinvest dividends. The portfolio value would always reflect the returns.

Since I use Stashaway, I'll respond using that as reference.
All dividends and capital gains for all portfolios are automatically reinvested. The only one that gives you the choice between reinvesting the returns or cashing it out is the income portfolio.
Generally, just leave everything there to compound, or if you use the income portfolio, just set it to reinvest dividends.
