Do you need the cpf for anything else?

Break the question into two. Why use cpf? why invest prudential?

  1. Using cpf for investment can give you potential higher returns without additional cash outlay. However, the same comes with risk of loss and opportunity cost compared to CPF guaranteed 2.5/4.0% returns. Also CPF funds are still locked up for retirement, so you cant withdraw profits.
  2. I'm not sure about prudential but there can be management fees that eat into returns.

If you are confident of beating CPF interest rates consistently you can go ahead, but my general advice is not to if you dont have much investing knowledge. Be risk averse and the guaranteed returns will do you well.

DIY is cheaper but hey if the agent is friendly and helpful why not throw a few dollar away for a free coffee date.

Read more on investing on moneysense website maybe.

What plan are you looking at?

Bottomline, can the eventual guranteed payout less fees beat the CPF ...
