Depending on the type of insurance. Most general insurance on car, personal accident, home, maid, travel are fairly straighforward when it comes to claim. The procedure and documents required are also pretty standard. So i would recommend buying direct for general insurance. But for life insurance where the changes to the policy wordings and product itself are more common, i would recommend going through an agent.

Hi Vernice,
β
This depends on what type of insurance you are referring to.
β
For simple products such as travel, car, home, etc, it may be more straightforward to get it online/directly from the insurer. Or for products whereby you know your needs perfectly and can make the right choice for yourself, e.g. DPI.
β
For more complex products whereby your financial situation needs to be taken into account and a proposal drafted specifically for your situation, it might be better to speak with an advisor to get his/her input and get tailored advice for yourself.
β
Claims wise, if you are providing sufficient supporting evidence as well as the claim being something covered by the policy, I don't see why it should be denied. An advisor can assist with claims such as help you to check on the status, push for a resolution, clarify any doubts, etc, which can be helpful to have if you are already at capacity dealing with a traumatic event and don't have energy/bandwidth to go into the details of claiming.
β
Hope that helps.
