For those of you working in the banking and finance industry, are your jobs considered to be relatively secured considering the nature of your work?

Thinking of changing industries and just want to find out more about the other sectors and the stability of those industries.

The job is secure depending on the value and role you bring to your employer.

The people who bring in the money will be kept, those who cost more than they bring in will be on the chopping board.

This is true across all industries, not just the financial sector.

I've clients who kept their jobs in the financial sector because they are a key person in their operations, while some have been retrenched due to staff layoffs - this is the norm when recessions hit.

Bottom line, do not depend on the sector for job security, the person in the mirror has to ensure continued relevance.
