Personally I feel that the 3% cashback for hospital bills is quite awesome but I don't understand why they decided to remove 3% cashback for NORMAL (not grab) taxi rides.

Hi Anon!
The BOC Family Card's removal of 3% cashback for taxi rides could actually be affected by Grab's recent moves in the ride-sharing market. The recent devaluation of the Grab rewards system (both increasing of the burn rate and decreasing of the ear rate), along with topups to the Grab Wallet no longer qualifying for many credit card rewards, have devauled the vaue of using Grab quite abit. Although I think that the impacts will be negligible- as Grab is too ingrained into our economic ecosystem lol, I do know of people who have switched to using Comfortdelgro. This could be what BOC expected with this card, and hence their choice to remove it as an expenditure category.
Alternatively, they could've just realised that Taxis aren't attractive to the younger crowd anymore, and hence having this expenditure category actually does not value-add to their card.
It's all speculation on my end, but this card is still fantastic for movie and dining spend- 10% cashback capped at $25 per billing cycle, so do consider that!
Hope this helps! :)
