For a new investor, what are the things they should know in investing in overseas stocks regarding taxes in Singapore and other countries?

While Singapore do not have capital gain tax, some countries do (including US, China). You may want to check out the rates first before investing overseas: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capital_gains_tax. Also be mindful of currency risk too.
