FIRE: Why are many people frowning upon the idea of early retirement?

I have shared my FIRE ambitions (to retire by 40) to close friends and family members and i mostly get the same type of response. "What will you be doing then at 40?? You will get bored".

Are we all hardwired to think that we ought to work under someone for the rest of our lives? I have seen colleagues hating their jobs but do not have an an end goal in sight.

I think they are just extroverts who depended on their workplace to fulfil their need for social interactions. As an introvert, I think it will be comfortable spending time doing your own hobby, learning a skill, reading an entire library, etc, with probably weekends spent to catch up with your closer group of friends who might not have retired yet.

Ultimately, I believe achieving FIRE give you the option to retire, and you can don't stop working. It will give you a peace of mind, to know you can just resign immediately if your boss give you hell without worrying about your livelihood.

That said, keep working on it, and all the best.

I can totally relate to this! I'm 31 this year, married with a daughter of 1.5 year old. When I told people my aim is to retire at 40, they commented things like "oh you'll be bored and lonely". No I won't, because my plan is to retire with my wife. Because my life is more than 9-6.

when I finally retire at 40 (hopefully), I'll have time to watch movies in the day with my wife, take long walks, go to cafes, and read endlessly without feeling guilty. I can also send my daughter to school, fetch her back home. I can also watch her grow up bit by bit. This will definitely be my dream. :)

Maybe you've been talking to the wrong people haha. It's hard to talk to people about this subject unless they are open to it because money is a sensitive issue and not many people plan years ahead so perhaps that's why they frown at others who do.

You will get bored after awhile if u just do nothing. But u can pivot to do something new without th...
