Finding the balance between mental wellness and financial wellness

Hello everyone!

I will be speaking on a panel about finding the balance between mental wellness and financial wellness, and I’d love to hear your perspectives.

Here are a few questions I’m exploring:

  1. Women at work
Does childbirth slow down the progress of your career?
  2. How do you and your partner manage your finances?
Do you combine everything, keep separate accounts, or follow a specific system?
  3. What does retirement mean to you?
Is it about being a millionaire, or living like one—having time, freedom, and peace of mind?
  4. What are your thoughts on being part of the sandwich generation?
Supporting parents while raising children—how do you navigate the financial and emotional load?
  5. What does financial wellness personally mean to you?
Security, stability, flexibility, peace of mind, or something else?

Would love to hear your experiences and opinions. Your insights will help shape a more meaningful conversation during the panel.

Interesting topic! These issues are very real for many people.

Childbirth & career can affect career progression, often depending on workplace culture and support.

Managing finances as a couple is a shared account for household needs, plus separate accounts for personal spending. Helps with clarity and independence.

Retirement is not just about being rich, more about having time, freedom, and not stressing over money.

Sandwich generation? It’s a heavy load emotionally and financially. Planning and open family discussions help, but the pressure is still significant.

Financial wellness for many is stability and peace of mind, having buffers, meeting needs comfortably, and reducing money-related stress.

Hope this adds to the discussion!

  1. Women at work
Its not the childbirth, but the childcare. When both takes up time and attention, you can't expect mothers to work long hours like a single unmarried woman. But I truly believe mothers can still excel at work.
  2. How do you and your partner manage your finances?
Have both joint and separate accounts. Be conscious about who is paying what. Communicate to find the right dynamics.
  3. What does retirement mean to you?
Having freedom to pursue what you like without financial worries.
  4. What are your thoughts on being part of the sandwich generation?
Acknowledge and communicate any difficulties - set expectations. Parents aren't here forever, while children is a future investment. Prioritise and look after ownself first, before taking care of others. Set up a support system, delegate the workload.
  5. What does financial wellness personally mean to you?
It is about what you mentioned - Security, stability, flexibility, peace of mind. But alot on life goals and self-actualization. What do you want to achieve?
