Female in her 20s with hypothyroidism which is under control for a while now but on long term medication. Applied to AIA power critical cover suggested by agent and got exclusion as counter offer?

Exclusion is "any covered condition related to any diagnosis of the insured's thyroid dysfunction". Checked with my agent and the exclusion include any thyroid conditions + any non-thyroid conditions caused by my hypothyroidism. I asked if loading was possible but was told that bcos the plan covers PRE-EARLY benefits so no loading (why is this even a consideration? Isnt underwriting result based on my condition & family history etc?)

Anyway is this exclusion too broad? Should I take it up?

Hi Anon, what you can do is to submit for similar policies from other insurers and see what each other underwriters say.

For those with pre-existing conditions, usually even before an application it would've been wise to try and get a preliminary underwriting done from a handful of insurers but what's done is done.

Any new application has to state that AIA has offered you special terms.

For now, ask if you can extend your decision notification date first before deciding.

In the scenario that every insurer offers the same terms, then go with the one you want.

But if any insurer offers even slightly better terms, take that instead. Most policies for multi claim CI plans (which is what AIA PWCC is) are quite competitive.
