Well it depends. If you’re currently with SP, you can be switched to a retailer after around 6-10 working days.
If you’re still in contract with a retailer, you can only switch over to another retailer on the 1st day after your contract with your current retailer is over or start a new contract once your previous contract with the same retailer is over to avoid early termination charges.

Ahhhh... okie so to explain this part. The date selection is to faciliate customers who has a choice of which date they need to transfer. So naturally, most customers will take the earliest available if they want to start saving money earlier. There are a few scenarios, customers will need to select dates. E.g Customers who had just moved into their new homes and need to wait for their account to be activated after meter reading; Customers who are currently with an electricity retailer and still has a contract duration to fullfill; Customers who wants to take up a promotion plan etc...
So the date selection is for customers who has the need to do so. The date also allows customers to understand which is the earliest available date they can transfer. Having said so, these preferred date will be accomodate most of the time, However in instances when customers sign up information does not tie with their SP account or if there more information required etc, this preferred date can be delayed.
