I would think it’s convenient for families, especially those with young kids and the elderly. But the cost of it overall (road tax, parking, servicing, petrol, insurance) seems too much. Any thoughts?

Hi there!
End of the day is if you could afford having the 'extra' expenses. I mean in Singapore it is very well connected via public transport as well as private hire cars. Definitely with family and elderlys in mind, if above statement stands, it is okay to get a car! If not, you may want to look into re-finance this extra 'expenses'. The recurring amount to own a car should be within your reach! Cheers.

It is definitely more convenient and worth it if you can afford it as you and your family will get to travel in much more privacy.
But if you're financially unstable, then having a car might not be worth it as it just bleeds money with the points you listed out.
