Do i own the shares in my CDP & get the dividend in cash for this kind of stock - traded on SGX but the share price & dividend paid are in USD?

When i place a buy order, will I be paying in SGD or USD? The declared dividend is the nett amount I receive in my account?

  • Yes you own the shares in CDP as opposed to custodian where your shares are held by broker accounts / banks.
  • Yes you do get the dividend in cash for stocks traded on SGX but are denominated in USD e.g. Hutchison Port Holdings Trust (USD) / Jardine Cycle & Carriage.
  • When you place a buy order, if the price is denominated in USD, you will be charged SGD at a conversion fee / rate
  • Declared dividend is nett amount if it is "tax exempted" e.g. The Board of Directors of Jardine Cycle & Carriage Limited (the “Company”) has declared an interim one-tier tax exempt dividend of US$0.28 per share for the financial year ending 31 December 2022 (the “Interim Dividend”). Shareholders will have the option to receive the Final Dividend in Singapore dollars, and in the absence of any election, the Final Dividend will be paid in US dollars.
