I feel that the dream of just relying on Dividends can be a cautious dream to have. Namely because of the recent COVID-19 situation you can see how the fragalities of such a system took shape.

The local S-REITs actually delayed their dividends due to the pandemic this year
The local three big banks (DBS UOB and OCBC) are reducing their dividend amounts due to the pandemic and poor economic outlook as well (MAS allowed this as well)
Regulations serve its purpose but you can never be truly certain
