Credit card recommendations

I just started working. My income after CPF is about 2.5k. My monthly spending can range from 300-1k. Any recommendations and why?

Hi Kyla,

If you're looking for cashback, I'd recommend AMEX True Cashback or UOB absolute. They award 1.5%/1.7% cashback on all expenses respectively with no monthly spend and cap. These cards are actually best used in conjunction with Grabpay card because Grabpay top ups with these cards are eligible for cashback. This means you can earn a bonus 0.6-1.2% cashback in grab points depending on your Grab membership status (top up Grabpay with cc, pay with Grabpay card). This is the best deal you can get for low spending requirement cashback cards. AMEX + SingSaver is also running a sign up promotion which you can take advantage of now.

I wouldn't recommend high cashback cards like UOB EVOL or DBS Live Fresh because they have a monthly minimum spending requirement (around $600). With a big fluctuation in monthly spending, there may be months where you'll be pressured to spend more just to hit the cashback.

For miles, I'll recommend HSBC Revolution. It earns 4 mpd on all online and contactless transactions, which covers almost everything, except the usual spending exclusions. There is also no annual fee and a free mini subscription to entertainer. HSBC + SingSaver is also currently running a signup promotion that you can take advantage of.

Hope this helps!

If you've got your student card and are under 21, can apply for the 1% credit card at Maybank or POSB.

Else, can try browsing the latest credit card deals at moneysmart / singsaver, and get reference from seedly's review (https://seedly.sg/reviews/credit-cards)
