Coinbase Fees

Hi all,

I recently signed up for coinbase to get the referral fee of the $10 in bitcoin. As we need to complete a transaction, I realised that if I am to use a card to buy crypto via Coinbase, the transaction cost is quite high at around $5. Is there anyway I can avoid/lower this fees and it eats up a lot of the referral fee part.
