Career Switch Or Stay With Current Job?

Good evening everyone,

I would like to hear opinions from everyone here.

I am reaching 30 next year and I have been working in an engineering job for the longest time and I am at the stage where I would wanna think if I should change my job. the current job also prevents me from taking on other jobs.

if I remain status co, I will be able to reach my retirement plan at the age of 40. which is 10 years from now.

if I leave, I was planning to start a mini-business while I try out as a financial advisor.

what are all of your opinions on this?

should I risk it and change my job?

or should I stay and persevere till I am 40, (though my love and happiness in the job are on the decline.)

Cheers and hope to hear more from all of u.

Switch to tech, the ROI is alot better in terms of $$, career prospects and emotional sanity. 10 years is a really long time to suck it up. you dont want to be 40 and realize that (touch wood!) you didnt reach your retirement plan due to some unforseen circumstances and a career switch will have an even greater opportunity cost at that age

Do you have a family to support? Parents? Children? (if yes, I would choose stability. if no, there's no risk involved, humans always find a way to adapt and survive :) )

Some of the questions I would ask myself before making a decision: What makes you think you will be happy starting a mini business and trying out as a financial advisor, or is it just a thought to escape the current situation? Is the current situation really unbearable or do you feel bored just going through the same routine daily? Do you feel unchallenged? Could it be the company you are with that you are unhappy about, perhaps you could consider shifting within the industry? After all, it's been something you've been doing for a long time, and to move industry would be to start all over again in another industry where others have had a head start (though 30 is relatively young). I would be happy doing something I am good at, and it takes time to get good at something.

I am all for experiencing life, but moving without a clear goal might cause you more problems than you currently have. Good luck!

Just don't do FA man. I know like 15 FAs in my circle of friends. I find the market is so super satu...
