An undergraduate intern in engineering. My sup is leaving the company and is eager to help me with my career as an engineer. Unfortunately, I am not interested to be an engineer. I actually wanna be a police officer and serve the community. He wants me to think of a 5year plan and share it with him soon. What do I do? I am eager to learn from him, but if I tell him I am not gonna b an engineer, he may not teach me as much knowing that it may "waste his time". Appreciate the help. Thank you.

From a pragmatist point of view, becoming a police officer makes more sense when you’re younger due to the physicality involved. And you can career switch to engineering at a later stage.
Choose the path with lesser regrets. Life can simply be about regret minimisation as well.

If i were in your position, where I really know that I want to be a police officer, i would definitely go for that first. I understand that it may be hard to voice out to your supervisor but I believe he would definitely hear you out and support in whatever you wish to pursue. You would never know if 5 years time after being a police officer, you realise being an engineer may be a better choice, then by then, you can still keep in contact with him and ask if he still offers this opportunity. Most importantly, keep a good relationship and be honest with him. :)
Hope my opinion helps!
