You can include investments if it's not the type that can suffer easy capital losses.
But remember that when TWS highlighted the benchmark, they were referring to 100k liquid cash for good reason. (I.e. flexibility of plan action)
Does not mean you need to follow their goal word for word, but do assess if this goal needs modification for your situation.
