I noted that the physical debit card costs $10 and the digital card is free. I'm currently going to use it only for online spending in foreign currency. So I was wondering whether I could not spend the $10 now and order it only when I need it.

It seems like you have to get the physical card before the digital card. I've got the card when it was still for free but let me assure you, you are not missing out. There are charges which makes spending more expensive. I keep Wise for remitting money, but I use YouTrip for payments, I even get 1.5% cashback for top ups. Mr Leong is correct. You have to order the physical card first before the virtual card can be accessible within your account. As a user myself, I can say that it is worth it.
