Buying a property overseas as a holiday home

Toying with the idea of buying a cheap property (under SGD100,000) overseas as a holiday home to escape to after this entire pandemic blows over.

Of course, if there is investment value, I won't complain, but I'm looking for something cheap, low maintenance, and is relatively safe (don't want to turn up at my home and seeing that it has been trashed by vandals).

Looking at Japan for now (have been going through some websites offering abandoned homes), but am open to other countries. :)

The main concern would be property management. If you don't have local presence in the country, how do you ensure maintenance and safety? Hiring property manager is the solution, and that comes with cost and their competency in handling maintenance, tax filing, rental & tenant management, estate planning, etc.

Need to consider estate planning because wills written in Singapore don't cover overseas property.
