Budget Range for a University Student

Hi, I'm 22Y/O, entering University coming this August. I'm planning my budget when I enter University. Some context:

House: Between Central and East Region of SG

School: West Side of SG (Journey to the WEST)

Travel Cost;

Mainly Mode of Transport: Public: $0.65 Train + Campus Rider per trip. To and from school and home; $1.30

Car (45min~1hr): $25 ~ $45

Food: ~$10/meal (Lunch)

Alloance: $50~$100/week

Based on this context, what range should I budget myself so that I can save up $ towards my emergency funds + investment capital? Is $500/mth too much for a University student?

Emergency funds: $5K ~ $6K

Try to get items from olio, goodhood, and carousell for free. esp shoes, attires, bags etc,

From your basic breakdown - transport and food only, the daily budget (5-day week) is no more than $20. Not sure how you derived those figures with a car mode in the picture... Btw, the campus rider to and fro Boon Lay Bus Interchange foc? Anyway, have you "surveyed" the NTU campus? Unlike NUS, my memory (just before COVID) of the food prices was not much difference from those beyond its boundary. Imo, can be costly from a uni-student's perspective.

At your age, you likely have to "socialise" over more than one meal e.g. breakfast/tea-break/dinner before/after class, during/after projects. Also, what if uni-mates asked you out over the weekends though it may not be often? Suggest you prepare some "play" fund or it is planned for as part of your emergency fund?

Out of curiosity, a student's emergency fund caters to what uses? Would think that its quantum will be set aside according to actual scenarios.
