Are you going back to the workforce at lower/same/higher pay grade & expected salary?
If it is at the same or higher than when you left, then you need to prove that the break helped you grow in whatever sense.
If it is at lower grade, then answer in terms of willingness to relearn?
BTW, it is commendable you did volunteering during the break! Instead of nua-ing the entire period.
