Are companies and organisations selling our information to insurance companies or investment companies as leads?

Hello members of Seedly community. I have observing something for quite a while now and would love to hear from everyone. I recently bought some air tickets from an airline and received a call from https://scottishheritagesg.com/ shortly after, asking if I am keen to invest. They told me that they got my contact from the airline.

Over the past few years, I also received calls from insurance companies which got me thinking if they have gotten my mobile number purely by generating randomly or are telcos or companies actually selling information to them as leads? Are they able to do so?

Nowadays the marketing are very clever at adding checks box to ask for your consent. If you don't read it properly, you may have allowed them to contact you to sell whatever they have. If you have great concern you may add yourself in the do-not-call registry with PDPC https://www.dnc.gov.sg/index.html or contact them so they will investigate the company.
