30 Critical Illnesses covered by Direct Purchase Insurance (DPI)?

Hello, I would like to ask if the 30 critical illnesses covered by direct purchase insurance (whole life), as listed by MAS, includes early stages? Thanks!

Hi Will,

The idea behind DPI is to provide a standardized product for consumers. In this case, pricing aside, everything else should be equal. Knowing that there is only a standard LIA list of definitions late CI but not early CI, I checked a couple of the product summaries for you to be sure.

The list of covered CI is only for late stage, and only for 30 major CIs as follows:

  1. Alzheimer's Disease / Severe Dementia

  2. Irreversible Aplastic Anaemia

  3. Severe Bacterial Meningitis

  4. Benign Brain Tumour

  5. Blindness (Irreversible Loss of Sight)

  6. Coma

  7. Coronary Artery By-Pass Surgery

  8. Deafness (Irreversible Loss of Hearing)

  9. End Stage Liver Failure

  10. End Stage Lung Disease

  11. Fulminant Hepatitis

  12. Heart Attack of Specified Severity

  13. Open Chest Heart Valve Surgery

  14. HIV due to Blood Transfusion and Occupationally Acquired HIV

  15. End Stage Kidney Failure

  16. Irreversible Loss of Speech

  17. Major Burns

  18. Major Cancer

  19. Major Head Trauma

  20. Major Organ / Bone Marrow Transplantation

  21. Motor Neurone Disease

  22. Multiple Sclerosis

  23. Muscular Dystrophy

  24. Paralysis (Irreversible Loss of Use of Limbs)

  25. Idiopathic Parkinson’s Disease

  26. Primary Pulmonary Hypertension

  27. Stroke with Permanent Neurological Deficit

  28. Open Chest Surgery to Aorta

  29. Severe Encephalitis

  30. Angioplasty and Other Invasive Treatment for Coronary Artery

Naturally, at this point, you would be on the 2019 CI definitions if you were to purchase DPI.

Hi Will, likely not.

There aren't many policies via DPI that allows for ECI coverage. It should be stated in the product summary if there is so do refer there.
