May I suggest you look into term insurance... no cash value if you ever want to cancel the plan but it's less taxing on your pockets... or a huge coverage for the same amount of money you might use in a traditional whole life insurance policy

term insurance covers death, tpd and can add on coverage for critical illnesses and early stages of critical illnesses.

never mix insurance with investment is very crucial point to learn... so avoid Investment Linked Products unless you've done your homework of knowing what to invest and the costs involved.... and honestly, it's too much effort to do so, by the time you do it, you will learn that it's easier and cheaper to invest on your own.

There are many policies available, I think some things to think about first would be;
Do I have an integrated shield plan? (This is crucial as medical costs in SG in on rise), and we want to have the option to have the best healthcare in the event anything unexpected happens to us.
There are many different products for Life insurance, it really boils down to what you are looking for, is your concern more related to CI?
Budget, I think affordability is one of the crucial components when it comes to insurance, cause if it's beyond what you can afford at that point of time; not being able to pay the premiums and disrupting your coverage is definitely something we all want to avoid
