The rates are not too ideal. And if you are rushing to send money and urgently, western union is not really suitable. However, they really do have many branches around the world, so use them if you don't really have a choice.1
What are your thoughts?Some remittance agencies boast they don't take any exchange rates conversions. Do not be fooled. They make money by taking money from the recipient who receives less than what he should receive.

Good point is you can send money to almost all counties in the world. The bad thing is there are a lot of steps you have to do before the recipient receive the money, and normally the exchange rate is not that good.1
What are your thoughts?Most of these remittance agencies fool you. They don't charge you at the exchange rate. But they pay less money to the receipeint at the other end. They hide this fact from the sender.
Transfer Wise is OK. They tell you upfront everything. And their rates are decent. Remittances are done within hours.

Very high fees (explicit transfer charges, FX rates with margin) Only USP that would lead me to use is their extensive branch network (both in country so branches nearby and at target country where remittance may benefit from good branch network) However if transaction going to bank in target country - likely to get better rates from bank (eg DBS now running free remit services and even their rates-with-margin better than WU) Did transaction to help out my FDW maid - unlikely to use again given branch network is not useful helpful and can use online banking otherwise0

DO NOT USE if you are in URGENT need of money. Two times, I've tried doing a remittance using my debit card. Once on their website, and once with their app. Both times they showed an error message AFTER doing the transaction against my card. So the money gets deducted from your account, but you can't actually collect it. Wrote to Western Union and they just said it will be credited back to my bank account after 3-5 days (Don't know if this true, or just a scam since it still hasn't been released back.). This means the money is not accessible to neither the sender nor receiver while it's held. Service quality is also bad, with no explanation why this happened. Not even an apology too for the inconvenience.0
