Would you consider cutting your child's allowance as a form of punishment?

Would you guys consider this inhumane? are there other ways to go about doing this? I'm struggling to find a suitable alternative

Yes I would, why not? If they overspend or cannot control, I will cut it totally to teach them a lesson. It's not inhumane. But of course, I would let him/her know why am I cutting it (indefinitely) and on what basis will I "reinstate" it in the the future.

Hi Anon,

How old is your child? Why is it NOT working now already?

A pre-schooler like mine would accept it. But a teenager would fight back. Of course there are other methods for that situation which is not a one fix method.

Everyone's answer is what they imagine they would do or what they are doing now.

Cutting your child's allowance would be a form of negative punishment (removing a factor to decrease behaviour). How about considering positive punishment methods (adding a factor to decrease a behaviour)?

Examples include additional house chores, more homework etc.

I will cut - not excessively I think enough for them to buy food during recess but nothing left over after. They need to learn the consequences for their actions so hit it where is hurts!
