Why can’t we achieve both dividends and capital gain in the same investment?

Well its possible. But most of the time companies that choose to not pay or pay less dividends so that they can use those money to further grow and develop their business. Companies that pays good dividends can also grow their business but of course will have lesser money to grow due to paying good dividends.
