What will you recommend for a 4% return.?

Hello

I have a low risk tolerance, looking to get a 4% return after deducting all the fees. My capital is small and I could only invest in around 2-3 different things due to the minimum stock brokerage fees. What do you recommend for my portfolio?

Thanks for your help in advance :)

Hey anon,

As Elijah has mentioned, 4% is very reasonably achievable.

There are various financial instruments that will give you a 4% return. The risk level is determined differently by every individual, so make sure you understand the risk involved and if you are willing to proceed.

You will also need to consider if you want to personally manage your investments, work with an advisor or a robo-advisor

If you are investing towards your retirement, CPF SA is a very good instrument with a 4-5% return.

When managing investments it is always best to look at your investments as a whole portfolio before zooming in. For example, your portfolio can have investments in different asset classes and averages out to give you 4%.

It is always wise to diversify your asset too after all

Here’s a simple guide of how positive returns may look like for an asset

Equities - 5 to 12%
Bonds - 2 to 3%
High Yield Bonds - 5 to 6%
Properties - 2 to 4%
Commodities - 2 to 3%
Time deposits - 1 to 2%
Cash - 0.1%

You can consider your overall investment profile and invest accordingly. Always seek professional advice if unsure.

4% is quite achievable easily.

Buy some REITs with good fundamental or ETF. A mixture of blue chips would be good too.
