What do you think of a universal basic income scheme in Singapore? Do you think that's feasible here?

To help Singaporeans who have been hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic, NMP Walter Theseira proposed that the Government implement a temporary universal basic income scheme that will give a weekly payout to all Singaporeans for at least 12 weeks.

Called the Majulah Universal Basic Income Scheme, it would be funded by a temporary increase in personal income taxes.

Love the ideal of a UBI (universal basic income)

a $1000 per mth for all singaporeans will reduce the fundamental stress of thinking abt bills and food and shelter.

maybe not $1000, but a smaller sum, not enough to make you super comfortable but enough to eat and live in SIngapore. $500?

I think it is extremely feasible but would be politically unwelcome.

Look at what the government is handling relief out

Self-Employed $1000 per mth

Unemployed: $800 per month.

The government is sending a clear and loud signal to the people, we will help you MORE if you make an effort to work.

A universal basic income is against what they are advocating for.

I will vote for a universal basic income though, even if i have to pay more income taxes.
