Adulting

What do you think is the hardest thing about adulting and managing your personal finances?

For me, it would be handling everything at once - job, insurance, student loan, how to split my pay, looking to invest... I'm still behind on the last two...

For me it's extracting all the "adult" expenses from my parents like bills, car loan, etc. They still wish to control the family expenses as if they're forgetting retirement age and how now I'm also making a living for the family. Slowly but surely is the way...

Saving and budgeting can be difficult too in the beginning. Before, I used to be too much of a scrooge when it comes to spending only to find out that some things are just worth the price. My trick is to set a weekly budget while locking the rest away in the bank first. that way I have to learn to live off of that amount. Now it's become a habit and I actualyl end up with a surplus that I can carry forward or save.

Manging your personal finance is a habit - and like any habit, it becomes natural over practice and time. Find out what works best for you and you've come to the right place as the community here are very helpful and competent in this subject matter.

I think the hardest thing about adulting is the overwhelming number of things you have to learn and pick up alongside adapting to the working world of adulting. This includes CPF, housing, taxes, bank loans, cars etc. We don't learn these in school which makes it harder on our part to learn as we go, which can get rather overwhelming and stressful.

As a 22 y/o undergraduate, something about personal finances that has been hard for me over the years was budgeting my expenses and sticking to a fixed ratio of my allowance. It took me a long while to figure out the best way to track my expenses, and keeping my financial goals in mind to be accountable for my savings every month. It is still a work in progress :)

I think when things get too hard, don't be afraid to ask for help too. Seek help from friends, family members and even a trusted financial advisor to keep everything in check. All the best! :)
