What do people in Talent Acquisition do?

What skillset do individuals in TA need to have? How do they judge whether or not to hire/interview someone? What's the pay range like?

To add on to what Andy has mentioned, I feel that the top 3 skillsets of a TA should be driven, empathetic, and resourceful. Especially for TA jobs with a commission-based structure, you should ideally be someone who is driven enough to want to close deals for your clients. But that's when empathy comes in - you shouldn't just close deals for the sake of earning the commission (kind of like the insurance agent situation here) but rather, understand what BOTH the client and the candidate want to make sure that they are a good fit for each other. Lastly, you have to be resourceful which means using creative ways to reach out to both clients and candidates and try to think out of the box.

How does a TA judge a candidate? Firstly, talk to the Hiring Manager and understand what are the top most important criteria they are looking out for. Is it a strong technical candidate? Or someone who is a good culture-fit etc. Then talk to the candidate, find out what are their passions, what kind of environment are they looking to work in. And from there, you can determine if they are a good fit for each other.

Pay range definitely varies alot. Depends on whether you are working in-house or external recruitment. Stress levels varies as well.

All in all, TA is very different from recruiting. Mainly because recruiting is more of fulfilling short-term needs while TA is more of long-term needs of the company. Very interesting job esp if you get to see your candidate working happily in the company you have placed them in :)

HR Professional at a Financial Institution

They are basically the recruiters of the company. They help the business,to source, screen, select and hire candidates. They also conduct interviews and offer the candidates the role with a compensation package.

They are also expected to keep tabs on the recruiting metrics/data for reporting purposes and should also know the trends of the industry, challenges faced as well as competitors practices so as to keep the company attractive to potential employees.

They should have good organisation and time management skills. Preferably someone with experience in HR info systems/recruitment and basic knowledge of MOM guidelines and regulations in order to facilitate a smooth and good candidate experience.

Salary ranges from 50 to 180K per year, but of course, varies from industry to industry.
