Started trading Forex 6 years ago and did it for 3 years.

Trading has very very steep learning curve, as you would be doing technical analysis (charts, candlesticks, technical indicators, etc) instead of fundamental analysis. You are almost guaranteed to lose money in the beginning when you are trying and testing out different investment strategies (there are tens of thousands of trading strategies out there).

It is also pretty time consuming, depending on your style (scalping, day trading, swing trading, position trading, etc), you will have to spend different amount of time. But minimally, 15 minutes a day is required for swing tradng, which is the most suitable for students and working class. As for scalping, you need to spend hours in front of your laptop everyday, and this could be your full time job if you can earn a sizeable income from it.

These are just 2 factors to consider - time committment and learning curve

But of course, if you are really good at trading, 10-20% profit a month is very achieavle.

I can only answer from my own expireince. There are some succesful short term traders (day traders) ...
