What are some of the financial wisdom that you've heard from your peers, clients, colleagues?

Hi peeps, I would like to ask the seedly community what are some of the "financial wisdom" that you've heard from your peers, clients, colleagues or have gathered over the years.

Examples would be:
1) Buy term invest the rest
2) You should not time the market
3) you should get insurance when you're young

Please share some of your experience as well! Thank you

This is a pretty good question... Yeah for me I've heard these:

  • Buy Term Invest the Rest (BTIR) simply because of the fees in the long run and taking a DIY approach
  • DCA (dollar cost average) LSI (lump sum investing)
  • Should get insurance when you are young (with no dieseases and lock in the premium rates)
  • Invest for high risk: Only money you can afford to lose
  • Invest for the long run (to ride out the ups and downs)
  • Only invest in what you understand
  • Insurance is a MUST (to protect downside)

Yup these are the more commonly heard ones so far... haha interested to hear what the community has also.

  • Do not go into business with with those you want to keep — my Uncle went into biz with close friends and later fell out but I think this really depends
  • Never spend money to gain more perks. iE spending more on your CC to get more rebates
  • Do not invest in something you do not understand
  • Do not invest just because someone else says it is good

Never lend money to other other people. Giving is easy, taking back is hard.

You can't take your money with you after death. You're just a caretaker of it while you live

Time in the market is better than timing the market, so start investing early
