How to know if paying tax using credit card through CardUp like service is worth it?

I am a new user of Cardup. Below is my review. Review: Have been contemplating whether to embark on such a platform as I didnt feel secured. However, as more and more banks has stopped issuing points/ rebates for payment to insurance company, I decided to revisit Cardup. After reading up, I am encouraged by lots of reviews that it is indeed quite legit. So my plan is to spread my insurance payments into the different months and try to hit $2000 spending per month (a mixture of cardup for insurance and tax, and retail/ online spendings). I will charge all these to UOB One Card and get $300 cash rebate quarterly. In this way, I will be getting a rebate of 5% - Cardup fee of 2.6% = savings of 2.4%. This is quite decent. Note that for income tax, you can only make a lump-sum payment and monthly instalments is not allowed. By doing so, I do not need to crack my brains on how to spend $500 for my OneAccount to get the bonus interest too, as Cardup is considered an eligible spending. I can then channel my spendings to another credit card for other rebates. By using Cardup, if I spend $2000 consistently for 12 months (which can be quite achievable if you are paying insurance premiums for your family members), you will be getting quite a substantial amount of rebates! Moreover, sometimes, Cardup will have promotional rates, for instance, currently, for rent, there are charging 1.9% fee instead of 2.6% (valid till end Jun 2020) and 2.25% fee on other payments instead of 2.6% (valid till end Jun 2020). This is indeed quite worth it! Use my Cardup promo code PEIFANGC906 to get $20 off your 1st payment if you are keen to explore!

Do you think it is a wise option to cancel my OCBC 365 credit card since the Spend Bonus is removed from OCBC 360 account?

Yes I would also think so. You should aim to now disconnect your spending and saving relationship with seperate banks/issuers that can give you a better interest rate. For example: - CIMB FastSaver has 1.0% pa flat on your savings (no conditions) - AMEX true cashback card, HSBC Advance card has flat cashback as well (no min spend) and a few other cards also can't rmb off hand! Just some food for thought, because I am also doing this right now to disconnect and re-think my banking relationships come July 2020 to optimise it better.

Can you earn reward points by using grabpay to pay for non grab services?
If you have the GrabPay digital card or physical card, then you may use it as a pre-paid MasterCard online or in-store. Accordingly, you will earn points for your eligible spending, e.g. paying for phone bills. I share quality content on estate planning and financial planning here.

What is Citi Priority for?
Hi anon, I think I received the same invitation as you, via email. I checked out the link briefly. Let me summarize: Citi Priority is a term used to describe your level within your banking relationship with Citibank. There are four levels, and this is the 2nd lower one. You climb the tiers when you have more assets under management (AUM) with the bank. Assets under management is basically how much money you have parked with the bank in cash or in other financial products. The goal of the bank is to engage you and get you to deploy your money in financial products. There's a whole suite of them and I won't elaborate, but it can range from insurance to deposits to investments. Suffice to say, Citi will make some money through the transaction, which is fine if the financial product you gotten does meet your needs. In return, they will provide you with a suite of privileges for you to enjoy. These could be things such as preferred rates for loans, lifestyle services, etc. Some people enjoy these perks because they are in some ways, exclusive. Some people don't need it but bank with Citi anyway. As you climb the ladder, you get more privileges. Think priority access to lounges, waived fees on bookings, and invite only events.

Any benefits to getting the AMEX Rewards Card?

This card has welcome offer where if you spend $1.5k in the first 3 months, you receive 24k membership rewards points in total (can be used to redeem about $110 cash credit). Also, get bonus points on all spendings in the first 3 months of card membership (min spend $1.5k as well) Another benefit would be that the points in your account won't expire so you will not have to worry about redeeming your reward quickly. No restrictions on the number of points you can accumulate so you can take your time to consolidate the points to receive the reward you want. Spending a minimum of $5k on your card in a calendar year and you will get 50% bonus points on all your spending. Do compare this AMEX rewards card benefits to others through our topic pages on the right. Each product page will show you reviews, ratings, and questions other users have left on the different credit cards.

Can anyone recommend any credit or debit cards that can be used together with cardup or ipaymy that will offer enough cashback or miles to be worth the transaction fees?
1) Cardup you can choose between Personal or Business 2) ipaymy focus on SME which is Business Account Both requires a tx fee of 2.6% for each tx. For card recommendation, you can refer to their website for more information. You can use the calculator available to calculate the cashback or milespoint for example https://cardup.co/homes/cashback_calculator You have to dyodd whether the credit card you are holding is more beneficial after the tx fee. I dont have CRV but based on my other cards, yes. As banks used MCC to determine the rewards and cashback eligibility, it should be the same for most unless specifically excluded by bank. However, an easy way to test out is to make a small amount topup. After you checked and make sure got points then you do lump sum. Also, everytime before lump sum you should check again. Banks can change the terms accordingly. May work this month but not next month.

To me, not much difference. Life goes on as per usual. Spending on necessity, saving up for investments, monthly DCA. On side note, I also reviewed my insurance quarterly. Abit overdoing it but good to keep up with the market.

Any chance of getting a waiver on the annual fee for Citibank Prestige card given current Covid situation? I understand you can't waive it under normal circumstances. Anyone managed to get a waiver?

Citibank Prestige are (in)famous that AF can’t be waived, non-negotiable. I renewed mine in January, pre-COVID and requested the fee to be waived and got declined. From their response doesn’t look like they’re even interested in retaining clients (I have no other products besides Citi Prestige with them).
