Are you signing on because their pay is very attractive...?

Are you interested to be in that field? Do you honestly like it? How long are you planning to sign with them?

Do you enjoy what you learn and do there?

I’m no expert in the navy but what I can say is the good old term “iron rice bowl” still stands and will remain true till the day Singapore has no use for a military (never).

Take the current COVID situation as an example, do you hear of any civil servants complaining that they’re afraid of losing their jobs? Worried about pay cut? Worried about not fulfilling their monetary commitments? Chances are, no.

Well, I Guess that’s the beauty of a government job.

1) Commitment. If you can commit to something monetarily eg house, car etc now, you won’t have to worry about having issues fulfilling the loan in the foreseeable future.

2) I believe the medical and insurance benefits are comparable if not better than what private companies are offering.

3) Standard 8-530 working hours with weekends off. Well, most I Guess.

4) Like every other jobs, the higher you climb the more lucrative your pay package will be. And I believe the government do pay high flyers very well.
