My husband and I are considering to move some time around next year. However we are concerned about the number of years left for the property as we are worried about the resale value in future.?

Would it be better to get a mansionette (older) or a normal 4 room (newer with more years left) at the same price? Thanks!

Do you mean "maisonette"? If so, you may want to consider the following questions:

  1. How many people do you have? Do you need that extra space?

  2. Can you accept the additional cost needed to furnish your maisonette, due to additional space and having to move furniture up the stairs?

  3. Can you accept the additional maintenance costs? E.g. Wear and tear due to age, property tax, etc.

  4. Can you handle the extra cleaning needed? Maisonettes (some?) have an extra bathroom.

  5. Utility bills are likely to be higher, especially if you use air-conditioning.

  6. Are you okay with the stairs? Will you be still comfortable with the stairs many years later?

  7. Recall that some government grants are tiered according to housing type (e.g. GST voucher). The grants for people living in maisonettes are less. Is that okay with you?

While these two properties are of the same price now, the long-term costs will not be the same.
