To my knowledge there is no difference other than the customer service / experience.
So far, my experience with dbs for online has been fine. Got my card within 2 weeks of submitting the documents/cpf.
For uob, I recommend going to the branch as their system could not issue me my card. Even at the branch, they could not find any records of my online application.

As long as you're fairly comfortable with using the internet, online sign-ups are the way-to-go. In a lot of cases, it costs banks 'extra' in terms of time and resources when consumers come into the branch to sign up. As a result, they sometimes incentivise online sign-ups with exclusive promotions and perks. For example, several banks offer cash rebates upon card activation only to consumers who applied online.
As mentioned elsewhere, several online services also offer boosted promotions (beyond what you'd find by applying directly through the bank website), which are worth checking out. One of the perks of applying in-person is that you can ask someone questions directly. However, even this may not be particularly transparent as you'll only be hearing from the bank representative. Researching online is helpful because you can learn more about the broader credit card landscape and see the pros and cons on an objective basis. As a credit card analyst, it's my job to dig through TnCs–it's interesting how many important details are hidden away in small print.
