Is it a must to have driving licence at 30 years old?

Considering how expensive a car is in Singapore, is it really necessary to have a driving license?

It is not necessary and may even be an advantage to not have a driving license.

When traveling, you get to sleep in the vehicles while the rest with driving license take turns to drive. You do not have to worry about driving

on the other hand, you are useless during emergency when someone is needed to drive and you cannot explore places on your own.

I would say driving used to be a very important essential skills, but given the world has turned around recently, it is so easy with the conveniences by calling a cab or ride-hailing.

As long as you are in Singapore or any other big cities where public transportation is easily available, driving skills can be non-essential. But it would be convenient if you're heading a bit outskirt where public transportation may not be that convenient anymore, then it would come into handy.

Why not? Knowing how to drive is consider a skill and it’s a lifetime skill.

Who knows one day our employer might want us to drive his car to meet customer or deliver goods. Or one day we kana retrench and we have the driving skill to look out for opportunity.

For me, I do not own a car but over the years I have the chance of convenience and opportunity driving other people car. Also earning a good amount from Uber/Grab last time.

To be completely honest, I think it's a necessary and essential skill. Not to drive around in a fancy car, but for survival and practical reasons.

You could have saved lives in a case of emergency. Imagine you happened to have a car lying around somewhere at home, and a family member fainted. Instead of feeling helpless and had to sort for help, you could have done a lot more on your end to improve the situation.

Hi anon,

Having a license will be useful in the event you are overseas and need to rent a car.
