I am currently looking to find jobs outside accounting, which I have been doing. However most companies are looking for experienced people. Do courses in Skills future help one to job hop?
From understanding, these courses are technical at best, while companies are looking for real experience. I don't want to have to spend money (the courses are not cheap) and turn out that the courses are not effective in securing opportunities.
I am not a big fan of skillsfuture because of the various training agencies that just want to grab the skillfuture money for the sake of grabbing it.
Hence tons of useless courses with not much real skills taught. I rather use udemy and pay cash for it. I am not kidding, and most courses taught at skillfuture approved agencies can be learnt from Udemny at a fraction of the cost (EXCEPT Udemy accepts only USD and Skillfuture is free $500 from government)
Having said that, I do feel many workers do benefit a lot from skillfutures, giving them a chance to try a new career path. Just be careful and choose a good course that you like.
You are right that experience is most important, go look for a job opportunity where you can show the interviewer that you are willing to work for lesser pay if you can learn on the job. I find that attractive in candidates.
It is better to seek a little assistance from WSG. But don't expect too much from WSG. I once went to find out more about the opportunity in the IT industry, especially with regards to the pcp program. There is a lot of media coverage that there is a lot of jobs in the IT industry. However, the career guidance officer told me quite frankly that it would be difficult if one has no or little relevant experience. This is because at the end of the day, employers would prefer someone with relevant work experience. However, there is no harm trying.
if you're keen to hope to IT, then there's quite a number of options: http://www.skillsfuture.sg/Pro...
